The Irresistible Sweetness of Gulab Jamun

Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian dessert made from khoya (dried milk solids) and soaked in sugar syrup. It is a classic sweet that is served on special occasions like weddings, festivals, and family gatherings. Here’s how you can make delicious gulab jamun at home:

Ingredients:

200g khoya
50g all-purpose flour
A pinch of baking powder
2-3 tbsp milk
Oil or ghee for frying
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
A few strands of saffron
A pinch of cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. Grate the khoya and add all-purpose flour and baking powder to it. Mix well.
  2. Add milk to the mixture and knead it into a smooth dough. If the dough is too dry, add more milk as required.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into smooth balls with no cracks.
  4. Heat oil or ghee in a deep frying pan and fry the gulab jamun balls on low to medium heat until they turn golden brown.
  5. In a separate pan, mix the sugar, water, saffron, and cardamom powder and bring it to a boil.
  6. Let the sugar syrup simmer for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  7. Add the fried gulab jamuns to the sugar syrup and let them soak for at least an hour before serving.
